Peer Group Data and Data Relationships
Fund Ratings
The agencies each have a proprietary system for producing a simple composite rating for a fund as shown in the following table. Each rating pertains to a time interval such as 1-year, 5-year, etc. Ratings data is stored in the warehouse in table RULESDBO.ENTITY_RATINGS.
Fund Analytics
Fund Analytics are statistics relating to funds in isolation from their peer groups. Return, standard deviation, and expense ratio are included, per time interval. The warehouse table RULESDBO.ENTITY_ANALYTICS stores this data.
Peer Group Analytics
Peer Group Analytics are statistics similar to Fund Analytics, but pertain to peer groups instead of funds. Peer group analytics can also distribute statistics cross-sectionally among peer group members. For example, Lipper provides as points of these distributions the minimum, 25th percentile, median, 75th percentile, and maximum. This data is store in warehouse table RULESDBO.ENTITY_PEER_GRP_ANALYTICS.
Fund Peer Group Rankings
In Fund Peer Group Rankings funds are intersected with the peer groups to which they belong. The peer group membership of a fund can change over time, and more than one assignment may exist at a given point in time, depending upon the definition of membership. Fund Peer Group Ranking data includes the percentile ranking of a fund in its peer group for to each of the standard metrics of return, risk, and expense. Warehouse table RULESDBO.ENTITY_PEER_GRP_RANKINGS stores this data.
This type of data can also be used also to support association between a fund and a peer group where the peer group itself is defined in relation to the fund. For example, sometimes a fund's peer group membership is "forced" outside of where it would fall naturally for analytical purposes.
