Cancel and Rebook Trades

The Cancel and Rebook Trade tool allows you to search for a trade that has already been processed and not only cancel the trade, but rebook the transaction.

To cancel and rebook a trade:

  1. In Accounting Center, in the left navigation pane, click Transactions > Trades > Book Trade/Rebook Trade > Cancel & Rebook Trade.
    You see the Cancel & Rebook Trade workspace.

  2. In the Search Details pane, complete the options and then click the Search button.
    You see the search results based on the criteria you selected in the grid.

  3. Select the row with the trade you want to cancel and rebook.

  4. On the Cancel & Rebook Trade tab, in the Actions group, click Action Rules, and then click Cancel or Rebook.
    Options include:
    –  Cancel. Cancel and Rebook Trade tool cancels the trade without opening any other panels and displays a blue check mark next to the selected trade.
    –  Rebook. Cancel and Rebook Trade tool displays the Buy or Sell panel, based on the processing security type (PST), allowing you to modify the original trade. The trade is not canceled until you submit the rebook transaction.
    If you select Rebook, you see the original trade details on the panel, which you can modify. The trade panel functions like a typical transaction panel with the core edits, warnings, and errors you see when you are entering a trade using the Book Trade tool.

  5. Click Submit.
    The Cancel and Rebook Trade tool cancels the original transaction and processes the modified trade. After processing a cancel or rebook, the system displays a green check mark in the status field.

The system does not provide the option to cancel or rebook the processed trades using the right-click menu. Additionally, refreshing the screen clears out the cancelled and rebooked trades.

Cancel & Rebook Trade Search Options

In the Cancel & Rebook Trade workspace, when you search for the trade you want to cancel and rebook, the following fields appear by default In the Search Details pane. When you search for the trade you want to cancel and rebook, you can click Add Search Criteria to add additional fields to the Search Details pane.

Entity ID

Specifies the identifier of the entity.

Transaction Type

Specifies the type of transaction you are canceling and/or rebooking. Available options include the following check boxes:

  • Select All. Opens and Closes. Default.

  • Opens

  • Closes

Date Type

 Specifies the date type. You can modify this field based on how you want to query for the trades. Available options include:

  • Settlement Date.

  • Trade Date. Default.

Start Date

Defines the time period during which the trade activities were generated. This field defaults to the current system date.

End Date

Defines the time period during which the trade activities were generated. This field defaults to the current system date.

Xref Type

Specifies the cross reference security type, such as SEDOL, CUSIP, and so on.

Xref ID

Specifies the cross reference security identifier.

Entity Name

Specifies the name of the entity.

Issue Name

Specifies the name of the security.

Ticker

Specifies the system of letters used to uniquely identify a security.

Pool Number

Specifies the pool reference number. 

Primary Asset ID

Specifies the primary asset identifier for the security.

Hide Non-Rebookable Trades

When you cancel and rebook trades, you can hide non-rebookable trades. 

To hide non-rebookable trades in the Cancel and Rebook Trade tool:

  1. In Accounting Center, in the left navigation pane, click Transactions > Trades > Book Trade/Rebook Trade > Cancel & Rebook Trade.
    You see the Cancel & Rebook Trade workspace.

  2. View your search results. 

  3. Right-click any row for a trade in the grid, and then click Hide non-rebookable.
    In the shortcut menu, you see a check mark beside the Hide non-rebookable option. Trades that you cannot rebook no longer appear in the grid. 

  4. To unhide non-rebookable trades, right-click any row in the grid, and then click Hide non-rebookable. 
    In the shortcut menu, you no longer see a check mark beside the Hide non-rebookable option. Trades that you cannot rebook can appear in the grid. 

Cancel and Rebook Trade Example

This example describes how to cancel and rebook a trade.

To cancel and rebook a trade:

  1. In Accounting Center, in the left navigation pane, click Transactions > Trades > Book Trade/Rebook Trade > Cancel & Rebook Trade.
    You see the Cancel & Rebook Trade workspace.

  2. In the Search Details pane, complete the options and click the Search button.
    You see the search results based on the criteria you selected. For example, suppose you want to cancel and rebook a buy trade of 10.00 shares to the security for an account, as shown on the Open Lots tab of the Cost object in the Position Viewer tool.

    In this example you see one buy transaction.

  3. Select the trade you want to cancel or rebook.
    Available options include:
    –  Cancel. Cancel and Rebook Trade tool cancels the trade without opening any other panels and displays a blue check mark next to the selected trade.
    –  Rebook. Cancel and Rebook Trade tool displays the Buy or Sell panel, based on the processing security type (PST), allowing you to modify the original trade. The trade is not canceled until you submit the rebook transaction.

  4. Select Rebook.
    The Cancel and Rebook Trade tool displays the original trade details on the panel, which you can modify. The trade panel functions like a typical transaction panel with the core edits, warnings, and errors you see when you are entering a trade using the Book Trade tool.

    Suppose you change the price of the transaction in the Price Per Share field from 400.00 to 350.00.

    NOTE: The Event Type for this transaction is now Rebook.

  5. Click Submit.
    The Cancel and Rebook Trade tool cancels the original transaction and processes the modified trade. If you refresh the Position Viewer tool, you see the modified trade is the trade of record for the position.

  6. Click the Cancel Open tab in the Cost object. You see the details from the original transaction. The Cancel Event Type is now Rebook.
