Manage Accounting Rules

You can set up accounting rules for amortization/accretion rules, unrealized gain/loss (URGL) rules, swap netting rules, and variation margin override rules. An accounting rule includes a rule name and description and indicates the type of rule. After you create an accounting rule, you can create a set of more specialized rules that apply to that accounting rule.

Create Accounting Rules

In the Create Accounting Rules panel, you can add an accounting rule.

To create an accounting rule:

  1. Do one of the following:
    - In Portfolio Data Center, in the left navigation pane, click Portfolio Desk > Accounting Portfolio Rules > Accounting Rules > Create Accounting Rules.
    - In Accounting Center, in the left navigation pane, click Setup > Portfolio Rules > Accounting Rules > Create Accounting Rules.
You see the Create Accounting Rules panel.

  2. In the Rule Name field, enter the name for the accounting rule.

  3. In the Rule Description field, enter a description for the accounting rule.

  4. In the Rule Type field, select the type of accounting rule.
    Options include:
    - Amortization/Accretion Rule. Default. Amortization/accretion rules specify how the system amortizes the securities held by the entity.
    - URGL Rule. A URGL rule establishes the proper treatment of unrealized market and currency gains/losses.
    - Variation Margin Override Rule. Variation margin override rules allows multiple clients on the same platform to share the same security reference data for futures, options on future, and cleared swap security master records but to suppress, by entity and processing security type, the variation margin logic on securities set up for variation margin.

  5. Click Submit.
The system creates an instance number for the accounting rule (instance tag 4629) that serves as the primary key for the accounting rule.

  6. You are ready to add the amortization/accretion rules, URGL rules, or variation margin override rules for the accounting rule.
