Manage URGL Rules

An unrealized gain/loss (URGL) rule establishes the proper treatment of unrealized market and currency gains/losses. A single accounting rule can have multiple instances of URGL rules with different elections. You can set up URGL rules at the following levels: processing security type, URGL security grouping, asset ID.

Create URGL Rules

In the Create URGL Rule panel, you can add a URGL rule.

To ensure compliance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), the system requires you to identify a URGL rule for any entity or master fund with an accounting basis that has one of the following IFRS regulatory categories assigned: Amortized Cost (AC), Available for Sale (AFS), Available for Sale at Cost (AFSC), Fair Value Option (FVO), Fair Value – Other Comprehensive Income (FVOCI), Fair Value Profit Loss (FVPL), Held for Trading (HFT), Held to Maturity (HTM), Loans and Receivables (LR). Be aware that the Fair Value – Other Comprehensive Income (FVOCI) regulatory category has a requirement that you make realized gain/loss entries on equity securities to a capital account, while all other securities hit an income account. You can use accounting basis level URGL rules to drive the ledger postings for securities held under the FVOCI regulatory category. These rules drive the unrealized posting process for the basis, but are also used to determine the realized G/L account posted to.
