Manage Processing Security Type (PST) Rules

Processing Security Type (PST) rules identify the processing security type and security master attributes used to break out account information in ledger reports when you use ledger granularity rules. You create a PST rule when securities within a processing security type should post to the same custom ledger account and can optionally include an account breakout based on security attributes. A PST rule identifies a specific PST plus zero, one, or two of seven available security attributes.

For example, you can create a PST rule that applies to securities with a processing security type of Interest Bearing Debt Instrument (DBIBFD) and breaks out accounts based on the lot's long/short indicator. You can then create one set of ledger granularity rule details that provide account mappings to use for DBIBFD trades that are long and a second set of ledger granularity rule details that provides account mappings to use for DBIBFD trades that are short.

Add PST Rules

In the Add PST Rule panel, you can add a PST (processing security type) rule for a ledger granularity rule.

To add a PST rule:

  1. Do one of the following:
    - In Portfolio Data Center, in the left navigation pane, click Portfolio Desk > Accounting Portfolio Rules > Ledger Granularity> Add PST Rule.
    - In Accounting Center, in the left navigation pane, click Setup > Portfolio Rules > Ledger Granularity > Add PST Rule.
You see the Add PST Rule panel.

  2. In the Ledger Granularity Rule Name field, enter the name of the ledger granularity rule for the PST rule.

  3. In the Processing Security Type field, specify the processing security type that applies to the PST rule.

  4. In the Attribute Selection 1 field, specify the first attribute used in combination with the PST to break out accounts for the ledger granularity rule. A PST rule includes a PST plus zero, one, or two attributes. See the Security Characteristics available for Account Breakouts section for more information.
    Options include:
    –  Security Type
    –  Long Short Indicator
    –  Federal Tax Indicator
    –  Market Sector Description
    –  Issue Country
    –  Affiliated / Unaffiliated
    –  Granularity Category
After you select an attribute, the database table and column for the attribute displays in the Ledger Granularity Table 1 field and the Ledger Granularity Column 1 field.

  5. In the Attribute Selection 2 field, specify the second attribute used in combination with the PST to break out accounts for the ledger granularity rule.
    Options include:
    –  Security Type
    –  Long Short Indicator
    –  Federal Tax Indicator
    –  Market Sector Description
    –  Issue Country
    –  Affiliated / Unaffiliated
    –  Granularity Category
After you select an attribute, the database table and column for the attribute displays in the Ledger Granularity Table 2 field and the Ledger Granularity Column 2 field.

  6. Click Submit.

Change PST Rules

In the List/Change/Delete PST Rule panel, you can change a PST (processing security type) rule for a ledger granularity rule.

Be aware that when you change a PST rule, the system deletes all the core to custom account mappings for that PST rule created through the ledger granularity rule details because those mappings are no longer active.

To change a PST rule:

  1. Do one of the following:
    - In Portfolio Data Center, in the left navigation pane, click Portfolio Desk > Accounting Portfolio Rules > Ledger Granularity> List/Change/Delete PST Rule.
    - In Accounting Center, in the left navigation pane, click Setup > Portfolio Rules > Ledger Granularity > List/Change/Delete PST Rule.
You see the List/Change/Delete PST Rule panel.

  2. In the Transaction Type field, select Change PST Rule.

  3. In the Ledger Granularity Rule Name field, enter the name of the ledger granularity rule associated with the PST rule you want to change.

  4. In the Processing Security Type field, specify the processing security type that applies to the PST rule you want to change.

  5. Click Submit.
You see a row for each PST rule that met your criteria in the Show All tab.

  6. Select the row for each PST rule you want to update so that a check mark appears in the Select column and click Change Selected PST Rule.
You see the PST rules you selected in the Change Selected PST Rule tab. You can update only the Attribute Selection 1 and Attribute Selection 2 fields.

  7. Update the Attribute Selection 1 field and the Attribute Selection 2 field values for each row.
A PST rule can include a processing security type plus zero, one, or two attributes. When you change the Attribute Selection 1 field value, the database table and column for the selected attribute displays in the Ledger Granularity Table 1 field and the Ledger Granularity Column 1 field. When you change the Attribute Selection 2 field value, the database table and column for the selected attribute displays in the Ledger Granularity Table 2 field and the Ledger Granularity Column 2 field.

  8. Click Submit.

List PST Rules

In the List/Change/Delete PST Rule panel, you can list the PST (processing security type) rules for a ledger granularity rule.
