Manage Capital Income Ledger Rules

Before you enable capital income ledger breakout for your entities, you need to create capital/income ledger rules. These rules allows you to select which mark to market offset ledger accounts and trade date to settlement date gain/loss ledger accounts to use in the ledger posting.

Create a Capital/Income Ledger Rule

In the Add Capital/Income Ledger Rule panel, you can create new capital/income ledger rules.

Make sure to refresh the engine cache after you add new rules to the system.

To create a capital/income ledger account rule:

  1. In Accounting Center, in the left navigation pane, click Setup > Fund Accounting > Capital Income Rules > Add Capital/Income Ledger Rule.
    You see the Add Capital/Income Ledger Rule panel.

  2. Complete the options in the Add Capital/Income Ledger Rule panel.

  3. Click Submit.

Chart of Account Name

Displays the chart of account.

Capital Income Ledger Rule

Specifies the unique name of the rule you are adding. If the rule name already exists in the database, the system displays an error.

Capital or Income Account Category

Specifies if the single ledger account or the range of ledger accounts selected in the From General Ledger Account and To General Ledger Account fields are designated as containing balances from either capital or income-based activities. Options include:

  • Capital. Categorizes the ledger account as a capital account. If you select this option, any mark to market (MTM) offsets and trade date to settlement date gain/loss offsets for cash settlements are assigned to the income ledger account.

  • Income. Categorizes the ledger account as an income account. If you select this option, any mark to market (MTM) offsets and trade date to settlement date gain/loss offsets for cash settlements are assigned to the capital ledger account.

From General Ledger Account

Displays the ledger account that is the earliest in numerical order in the range of accounts covered by the Capital or Income Account Category designation.

To General Ledger Account

Displays the ledger account that is the latest in numerical order in the range of accounts covered by the Capital or Income Account Category designation. If a single account is to be covered by the Capital or Income Account Category, the From General Ledger Account and To General Ledger Account field values are the same.

Edit a Capital/Income Ledger Rule

In the Edit Capital/Income Ledger Rule Details panel, you can modify the existing capital/income ledger rule. You can change the existing ledger account ranges or categorizations, or add new ones as needed.

Make sure to refresh the engine cache after you edit existing rules.

To edit a capital/income ledger rule:

  1. In Accounting Center, in the left navigation pane, click Setup > Fund Accounting > Capital Income Rules > Edit Capital/Income Ledger Rule Details.
    You see the Edit Capital/Income Ledger Rule Details panel.

  2. In the Capital Income Ledger Rule field, select the identifier for the capital/income ledger rule you want to edit. 

  3. Click Submit.
    You see the capital/income ledger rules that met your criteria in the Show All tab. 

  4. Select the check box for one or more rows of the rule details that you want to edit, and click Select Rule(s) to Update.
    You see the selected rule details in the Select Rule(s) to Update panel. The pane at the bottom of the panel includes a row for each selected sequence in the rule.

  5. Change the selected capital/income ledger rule criteria. 
    You can change all values with the exception of the capital/income ledger rule name.

  6. Click Submit.
    The system updates the selected details for the capital/income ledger rule.

List Capital/Income Ledger Rules

In the List Capital Income Rule Details panel, you can view a list of capital/income ledger rules.

To view a list of capital/income ledger rules:

  1. In Accounting Center, in the left navigation pane, click Setup > Expense > Income Based Expense > List Capital Income Ledger Rule Details.
    You see the List Capital Income Ledger Rule Details panel.

  2. In the Capital Income Ledger Rule field, select the identifier for the capital/income ledger rule you want to view. 

  3. Click Submit.
    You see the capital/income ledger rules that met your criteria in the Show All tab.

Refresh the Engine Cache

After you add a new rule or edit an existing one, you need to refresh the cache to reflect the changes in the system.

To refresh the engine cache:

  1. In System Management Center, click System Settings in the left navigation and then click Refresh Engine Cache.
    You see the Refresh Engine Cache workspace.

  2. To run a refresh engine command, right click the CCF_RELOAD_BREAKOUT_RULES row and select Run.

  3. Click the X in the bottom tab to close the results workspace.

Assign the Capital/Income Ledger Rule to an Entity

After you create a rule, you can assign it to an existing mutual fund using the Edit Master Fund/Sector panel or non-mutual fund using the Create/Edit Entity panel.

To assign the capital/income ledger rule to an entity:

  1. In Accounting Center, in the left navigation, select Setup > Portfolio Setup > Entities > Create/Edit Entity.
    You see the Create/Edit Entity panel.

  2. In the Capital Income Ledger Rule field, select the capital/income ledger rule.

  3. Click Submit & Close.
