About Legal Entity Identifiers
Eagle supports the use of legal entity identifiers (LEIs) to track parties to financial transactions, including issuers, exchanges, depositories, entities, and mutual funds. You can maintain information about the financial party's registered LEI code, including the legal name and address used for registration and the history of the LEI certification process.
The Financial Stability Board (FSB), an international body that monitors global financial systems, has recommended the use of legal identifiers to track the identities of all parties to financial transactions. The governing organizations for LEI in the United States are the Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC) and the Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication (SWIFT).
The Legal Entity Identification code is a 20-character alphanumeric value registered within the financial services industry to uniquely identify an issuer, exchange, depository, or mutual fund. For example, the LEI registered code for the BNY Mellon Global Strategic Bond Fund is R65KRPCZVYPGETKGXX14 and the registered code for the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), which is both an exchange and an issuer, is 549300HIIRNTNKXV3M12.
When you assign the LEI code to a financial party, you can do the following:
- Add LEI information for an issuer and view the issuer's LEI information for a security.
- Add LEI information for a depository.
- Add LEI information for an exchange.
- Add LEI information for an entity.
- Add LEI information for a mutual fund.
