About the Search

The Metadata Manager offers you several different ways of searching metadata. You can run simple, orphan, and usage searches on specific metadata items to see how and where the items are used. You can also run searches across metadata snapshots. All search results are displayed in the Search Results window.

About Search Options

You can run simple, orphan, and usage metadata searches:

  • Simple Search. Searches for metadata for a specific item or all items of a type.
  • Orphan Search. Searches for items that have do not have immediate parent, children, or mapping relationships and may need to be cleaned up. The orphan search criteria include:
    –  no parents
    –  no parents and no mapping
    –  no children
    –  no children and no mapping
    –  no parents, no children, and no mapping
  • Usage Search. Searches for items across a specific type, or across all types. The usage search criteria include:
    –  use
    –  do not use
    –  are used by
    –  are not used by
    –  use or are used by

Manage Searches

In the Metadata Manager, you can use the controls in the upper right corner of the Search dialog box to manage searches. You can save most frequently used searches. You can also designate searches as default and delete searches that are no longer needed. You can also quickly clear all entered search criteria.

To manage searches:

  1. From any Metadata Manager window, click the double arrow next to the Search button to access the Search dialog box. To access a saved search, click the Search drop down and select a search.
  2. In the Search dialog box, click the Save icon to save a search.
  3. Click the Clear icon to clear all selected search criteria.
  4. Click the orange X to delete a saved search.
  5. Click to check the Make this my default search check box to make the search a default.
  6. Click the Close button to close the Search dialog box.
