Manage Sector/Fund Information

Sectors represent investment strategies of the master fund entity and are usually run by different managers in an attempt to mitigate risk across the fund. In the Create Sector Fund Setup panel, you can add one or more sectors to a master fund entity. You must post a sector allocation if you manually add, change, and delete sector information. You can post the sector allocation using the Post Sector Allocation Entries panel.

In the Create Sector Fund Setup panel, you can add one or more sectors to a master fund entity.

To add a sector:

You are ready to post the sector allocation.

Post Sector Allocations

You must post a sector allocation if you manually add, change, and delete sector information. When you post a sector allocation, the system allocates cash to sectors if you set the Allocate Master Fund Cash Activity to Sectors field (tag 12069) to Yes in the Create Master Fund panel.

To post a sector allocation:

  1. In Accounting Center, in the left navigation pane, click Fund Accounting > Allocations > Post Sector Allocation Entries.
You see the Post Sector Allocation Entries panel.

  2. Complete the options on the Post Sector Allocation Entries panel.

  3. Click Submit.
The system posts the sector allocations to the ledger.

Edit Master Funds/Sectors

In the Edit Master Fund/Sector panel, you can change information about the master fund entity and its sectors.

To edit a master fund entity and sectors:

  1. Do one of the following:
    - In Portfolio Data Center, in the left navigation pane, click Portfolio Desk > Accounting Portfolio Setup > Mutual Funds > Edit Master Fund/Sector.
    - In Accounting Center, in the left navigation pane, click Setup > Portfolio Setup > Mutual Funds > Edit Master Fund/Sector.
You see the Edit Master Fund/Sector panel.

  2. In the Entity Identification section, specify the Master Fund ID or the Master Fund Name to identify the master fund entity you want to change.
After you select the master fund entity, you see additional information about the entity you selected.

  3. Click Submit.
The Show All tab displays a row for the master fund entity and for each sector associated with that entity.

  4. Click Change Fund Information.
You see the Change Fund Information tab. The upper pane describes the master fund entity and the lower pane includes one row for the master fund entity and an additional row for each sector associated with that entity.
The Sector Identification section of the upper pane identifies the selected sector for the master fund. Notice the value of the Sector ID and Sector Type. The Sector Type is a locked field that identifies the type of sector row currently selected in the lower pane. Values include Master if you select a row for the master fund entity or Sector if you select a row for a sector.

  5. Change the mutual fund or sector information.
To modify information for the master fund entity, modify the desired fields in the upper pane. To modify information for the sector, click the row for the sector you want to change in the lower pane so that the corresponding information for the selected sector appears in the Sector Identification sector of the upper pane. You can modify the sector information fields in the upper or lower pane. However, if you need to add a new sector for the master fund entity, use the Create Sector Fund Setup panel.
When you modify mutual fund information, certain fields are locked because you cannot change those fields after you set up a mutual fund type entity; additional fields are locked if the entity has holdings. Examples of such fields include Primary Accounting Basis, Cost Method, Cost Method Cash, Account Base Currency, Accounting Period Frequency, and Secondary Accounting Basis. Also note that you cannot change the dates that affect the entity's accounting periods. The Entity Status field is locked. However, you can use the Change Entity Active Status panel to change the status.

  6. Click Submit.
The system saves the changes you made to the master fund entity and/or its sectors.
