Run Usage Searches

In the Metadata Manager, usage searches allow you to search for how the items are used across a specific type or across all types. You can run usage searches from the Items window, or directly from the Search dialog box. For usage searches, you need to provide information about the related type, such as a type name, item name, or an attribute name.

It is helpful to know the actual metadata hierarchy structure prior to running the usage searches. The usage search results include parents and/or children, depending on the search criteria. The mapping is always included.

The following search criteria are used by the usage search:

  • use and do not use. Return the parent metadata of the child selected in the related type.

  • are used by and not used by. Return the children metadata of the parent selected in the related type.

  • use or are used by. Returns both the parents and the children metadata depending on how the search criteria is entered.
