Manage Mutual Funds

In the Portfolio Desk's Mutual Fund workspace, you can create mutual funds. You require a mutual fund policy to create a mutual fund.

Mutual funds are designed to track transactions and trades that involve capital stock and NAV processing. The mutual fund structure allows you to set up multiple share classes and sectors. All share classes and sectors are tracked.

Each fund identifies the following:

  • The policy the fund is mapped to.

  • Detailed information provided for the fund. 

  • Assignment details described for the fund.

  • Data tabs configured for the fund, if any.

Select a Policy

In the Create New dialog box, you select a mutual fund policy to create a fund.

To select a policy:

  1. From the left navigation, select Portfolio Desk > Mutual Fund. Or select Portfolio Desk and click All.
    By default, you see the Mutual Fund workspace.

  2. On the Home tab, in the Manage group, click Create New.
    You see the Create New dialog box. 

  3. In the Select Policy list, select a policy for the mutual fund you want to create. 
    By default, you see the available lists of predefined policies.

  4. Click OK.
    You see the Details page with the list of Master Fund field groups of the policy.

Provide Fund Details

In the Create New Portfolio wizard's Details page, you can provide the details about the fund. Based on the mutual fund policy you select, you need to provide the appropriate information.

To add basic fund details:

  1. In the Details for, specify the effective date for the master fund. Or use the Date selector to provide the appropriate date for the fund.
    This field identifies the date by which the master fund is eligible for processing. You can specify a effective date in the past or future.  
    By default, you see the system date as the effective date.

  2. In the Entity ID box, type a unique id for the fund.
    This fields allows you to enter not more than eight alphanumeric characters.

  3. In the Entity Name box, type a name for the fund.
    The Details page lists you the selected policy's master fund field groups and their corresponding fields.

  4. Provide appropriate information for each field, as needed.
    - If any default value is set for a field, it is automatically populated from the policy.
    - If a field is locked at the policy level, you see a lock symbol next to the field.
    - If an enrichment rule is applied to the field, the field is grayed out and you see an appropriate message.
    - If there is a mandatory field, the Next button in the page is not enabled unless you provide the appropriate value.

  5. Click Next. 
    You see the Share Class page. By default, it lists the Share Class field groups of the policy.

Provide Share Class Details

In the Create New Portfolio wizard's Share Class page, you can provide details about the Share Class of the Master Fund.

Based on the mutual fund policy you select the system displays the Share Class page.

To add share class details:

  1. Click Add Share Class button to add share class for the mutual fund. You can add one or more share classes for the fund, as needed.
    You see the Duplicate Effective Date dialog box.

  2. Specify the effective date for the history record. Or use the calendar icon to select the date.
    This field identifies the date by which the Share Class is eligible for processing. You can specify a effective date in the past or future.  

  3. Click OK.
    You see the system displays the selected date as the As of Date and enables the Field Group fields for editing.

  4. In the Entity ID box, type a unique id for the Share Class.
    NOTE: If you configure more than one Share class, you need to provide unique Entity ID for each Share Class. 

  5. Provide appropriate information for each field, as needed.

  6. Click Next.
    You see the Sector page. By default, it lists the Sector field groups of the policy.

Provide Sector Details

In the Create New Portfolio wizard's Sector page, you can provide details about the Sector. Based on the mutual fund policy you select, the system displays the Sector page.

To add sector details:

  1. Click Add Sector button to add sector for the master fund. You can add one or more sectors for the fund, as needed.
    You see the Duplicate Effective Date dialog box.

  2. Specify the effective date for the history record. Or use the calendar icon to select the date.
    This field identifies the date by which the Sector is eligible for processing. You can specify a effective date in the past or future.  

  3. Click OK.
    You see the system displays the selected date as the As of Date and enables the Field Group fields for editing.

  4. In the Entity ID box, type a unique id for the Sector. 
    NOTE: If you configure more than one Sector, you need to provide unique Entity ID for each Sector. 

  5. Provide appropriate information for each field, as needed.

  6. Click Next.

Provide Assignment Details

In the Create New Portfolio wizard's assignment pages, provide appropriate information, as needed.

To add assignment details:

  1. In the Benchmark page, you assign benchmarks, as needed for the entity.In the Peer Group Association page, you assign peer groups, as needed for the entity.

  2. In the Disclosures page, select one or more disclosures as needed for the entity.

  3. In the Asset Mix Policy page, select one or more asset mix policies as needed for the entity.

  4. In the Fee Schedule page, select a fee schedule for the entity.

  5. Click Save to save the fund.
    You see a message stating successful fund creation. The system generates the fund and lists it in the Mutual Fund workspace.
