Manage the Eagle Data Dictionary Metadata

The Metadata Manager allows you to view and manage the Eagle Data Dictionary metadata. The Eagle Data Dictionary is a full listing of Eagle's database, table, and column names as well as a set of attributes (descriptive information), such as column descriptions, table description, product, data category, etc.

You can search and filter the Eagle Data Dictionary metadata based on attributes. See the Run Usage Searches section. You can also run the Eagle Data Model analysis reports that will contain attributes. See the Run Eagle Data Model Analysis Reports section. You can view the Eagle Data Dictionary metadata as well as print and export the metadata details. See the Print Metadata Details and the Export Metadata Details sections.

The following Eagle Data Dictionary metadata types are supported:

  • Database
  • Database Table
  • Database Column
  • Tags

View Eagle Data Dictionary Metadata Based on Database Type

To view the Eagle Data Dictionary metadata based on the Database type:

  1. From any Metadata Manager window, click Types in the navigation path, or click the Types bottom tab to display types in the workspace.
  2. Click Eagle Data Dictionary in the left navigation.
    You see the following types:
    –  Database
    –  Database Table
    –  Database Column
    –  Tag
  3. Double click the Database type to see the items.
    You see a list of all Eagle database names.

View Eagle Data Dictionary Metadata Based on Database Table Type

To view the Eagle Data Dictionary metadata based on the Database Table type:

  1. From any Metadata Manager window, click Types in the navigation path, or click the Types bottom tab to display types in the workspace.
  2. Click Eagle Data Dictionary in the left navigation.
    You see the following types:
    –  Database
    –  Database Table
    –  Database Column
    –  Tag
  3. Double click the Database Table type to see the items.
    You see a list of all database table names, as well as the databases they belong to, and the following table attributes:
    –  Table Description
    –  Product
    –  Component
    –  Data Category
    –  Purging Comments
    –  Purge Priority
    –  Threshold
    –  Tags Required

    The above attributes, with the exception of Table Description and Purging Comments, are all categories in the left navigation and may be used to narrow down the search. Additional attributes such as Database are also available as categories and other attributes are displayed as columns in the window.

View Eagle Data Dictionary Metadata Based on Database Column Type

To view the Eagle Data Dictionary metadata based on the Database Column type:

  1. From any Metadata Manager window, click Types in the navigation path, or click the Types bottom tab to display types in the workspace.
  2. Click Eagle Data Dictionary in the left navigation.
    You see the following types:
    –  Database
    –  Database Table
    –  Database Column
    –  Tag
  3. Double click the Database Column type to see the items.
    You see a list of all database column names, as well as the databases and the database tables they belong to. You also see the following attributes:
    –  Database Type
    –  Database Size
    –  Star Tag (if exists in PACE Inventory tables)
    –  Eagle Column Description

    The following attributes are displayed in the left navigation and may be used to narrow down the search:
    –  Component
    –  Data Category
    –  Database
    –  Database Table
    –  Database Type
    –  Product
    –  Purge Priority
    –  Tags Required
    –  Threshold
    –  Update User/Source

View Eagle Data Dictionary Metadata Based on Tag Type

To view the Eagle Data Dictionary metadata based on the Tag type:

  1. From any Metadata Manager window, click Types in the navigation path, or click the Types bottom tab to display types in the workspace.
  2. Click Eagle Data Dictionary in the left navigation.
    You see the following types:
    –  Database
    –  Database Table
    –  Database Column
    –  Tag
  3. Double click the Tag type to see the items.
    You see a list of all tags that are in the STAR Tag dictionary.
