You can decompose synthetic returns by running a PACE OLAP report at log level 10. Best practices dictate that you only run an OLAP report at level 10 for one fund at a time. You can do this using the Submit with Override report option. For more information, see Using Performance Analysis Engine Logs.
When you run the report, remove all entities except for the one fund in question. Then edit the log level by selecting the Override the server log level check box and setting the log level to a value of 10. After the report runs, open the report results, select the Diagnostics tab, and click the Log File Name button to view the log.
The logs help you analyze synthetic processing by disclosing:

  • An indication if the field is synthetic and which type it is
  • The entity id and inception dates of both the child and parent fund
  • The crossover date and crossover ratio
  • Daily detail shows the parent fund id and underlying data during the synthetic period and the child fund data for the actual period
  • Daily detail shows the artificial sell/buy activity on the crossover date
  • A display of the expense ratios for both the child and parent fund
  • An indication of the accrual method used
  • Daily detail shows the adjustment factors and dollar accruals for all expense adjustments
