The Logic Builder is a utility that enables you to build a logical expression using operators, field attributes, values, and other parameters.
The Logic Builder becomes available when you are creating or modifying a rule. For example, in Performance Center, you might create a new Validation Rule in the Data Quality Monitor that requires a logical statement for a Cash Activity Check.
To develop a logical expression:
- Click Define.
You see the Logic Builder. The condition IF appears in the Preview pane by default. - Select a parenthesis from the drop-down list, if needed. The default is no parenthesis.
- To include a field, place your cursor in the Field/Value cell and then select a field from the drop-down list. You can also type in the name of the field to bring up a suggested list of fields. Or, you can make a selection from the Fields pane. Enter text in the search cell to bring up a specific field or drill down through the available folders. Double-click the desired field.
You see the selected field name in the Field cell as well as in the Preview pane. - Enter an Operator from the drop-down list. Available operators are =, >, >=, <, <=, !=, IN, NOT IN, IN CODE, NOT IN CODE, LIKE, NOT LIKE, -, +,*, /, and ^.
- To include a Value, select V from the Field/Value drop-down list, and enter a value in the text box.
- To generate a second line, click the Add icon .
You see a new line. - Select a Condition from the drop-down list. Available conditions are IF, THEN, ELSE, END IF, AND, OR. The default is IF.
- Select Parenthesis, Field/Value, and Operators as needed.
- Click Save to save your work without closing the window so you can continue working on the expression.
- When you have completed building your logical statement, click Save & Close to save your work and close the window.
You are returned to your original operation. You see the new expression in the field.
When you place the cursor in a cell, the following right-click options become available: Copy, Paste, Clear Cell, and Change Type to Value. When you right-click the Add icon , you can copy, paste, insert row, or delete row.
