You can set up accounting rules for amortization/accretion rules, unrealized gain/loss (URGL) rules, swap netting rules, and variation margin override rules. An accounting rule includes a rule name and description and indicates the type of rule. After you create an accounting rule, you can create a set of more specialized rules that apply to that accounting rule.

Create Accounting Rules

In the Create Accounting Rules panel, you can add an accounting rule.

To create an accounting rule:

  1. Do one of the following: 
    - In Portfolio Data Center, in the left navigation pane, click Portfolio Desk Accounting Portfolio Rules > Accounting Rules Create Accounting Rules.
    - In Accounting Center, in the left navigation pane, click Setup Portfolio Rules >

 Accounting Rules 
  1.  Accounting Rules Create Accounting Rules.
    You see the Create Accounting Rules panel.

  2. In the Rule Name field, enter the name for the accounting rule.

  3. In the Rule Description field, enter a description for the accounting rule.

  4. In the Rule Type field, select the type of accounting rule.
    Options include:  
    - Amortization/Accretion Rule. Default. Amortization/accretion rules specify how the system amortizes the securities held by the entity.
    - URGL Rule. A URGL rule establishes the proper treatment of unrealized market and currency gains/losses
    - Variation Margin Override Rule. Variation margin override rules allows multiple clients on the same platform to share the same security reference data for futures, options on future, and cleared swap security master records but to suppress, by entity and processing security type, the variation margin logic on securities set up for variation margin

  5. Click Submit.
    The system creates an instance number for the accounting rule (instance tag 4629) that serves as the primary key for the accounting rule.

  6. You are ready to add the amortization/accretion rulesURGL rules, or

URGL
  1. variation margin override rules for the accounting rule.

Edit Accounting Rules

In the Edit Accounting Rules panel, you can change an accounting rule. 

To edit an accounting rule:

  1. Do one of the following: 
    - In Portfolio Data Center, in the left navigation pane, click Portfolio Desk 

Accounting Portfolio Rules 
  1. Accounting Portfolio Rules > Accounting Rules Edit Accounting Rules.
    - In Accounting Center, in the left navigation pane, click Setup Portfolio Rules >

 Accounting Rules 
  1.  Accounting Rules Edit Accounting Rules.
    You see the Edit Accounting Rules panel.

  2. In the Query Based On field, identify the rules you want to change. 
    Options include:
    –  Rule Name. Allows you to change an accounting rule that you specify in the Rule Name field.
    –  Type. Allows you to change all accounting rules with a rule type that you specify in the Rule Type field.
    –  All. Allows you to change all accounting rules.

  3. Click Submit.
    You see the accounting rules that met your criteria in the Show All tab.

  4. Select each accounting rule you want to change and click Change Selected Accounting Rules.
    You see each rule you selected in the Change Selected Accounting Rules tab.

  5. Modify the accounting rules. 

  6. Click Submit.

Delete Accounting Rules

In the Delete Accounting Rules panel, you can delete an accounting rule. The system prohibits the deletion of an accounting rule that has an underlying amortization rule.

To delete an accounting rule:

  1. Do one of the following: 
    - In Portfolio Data Center, in the left navigation pane, click Portfolio Desk

  1. Accounting Portfolio Rules > Accounting Rules Delete Accounting Rules.
    - In Accounting Center, in the left navigation pane, click Setup Portfolio Rules >

 Accounting Rules 
  1.  Accounting Rules Delete Accounting Rules.
    You see the Delete Accounting Rules panel.

  2. In the Query Based On field, identify the rules you want to delete. 
    Options include:
    –  Rule Name. Allows you to delete an accounting rule that you specify in the Rule Name field.
    –  Type. Allows you to delete all accounting rules with a rule type that you specify in the Rule Type field.
    –  All. Allows you to delete all accounting rules.

  3. Click Submit.
    You see the accounting rules that met your criteria in the Show All tab.

  4. Select each accounting rule you want to delete and click Delete Selected Accounting Rules.
    You see each rule you selected in the Delete Selected Accounting Rules tab.

  5. Click Submit to delete the selected rules.
