You can use the following reports when you use month end processing.

Understand Month End Reports

You can use Eagle Accounting’s standard report package to run a number of reports that use month end reportsinformation.

When you run these reports you can usually specify these values:

  • Report Type. The report type specifies the type of date for controlling the report results. For month end reports, you enter the month end accounting dateselect the Month End Date option. This uses report data in the Eagle data warehouse with the MSTARDIRECT data source.

  • Report Date. The report date specifies the effective date for the report results. For month end reports, you Identify the month end date.

Every time you book a transaction in Eagle Accounting, dates are booked to a number of dates including the Accounting Date and Month End Date. When you set up the entity to use monthly accounting periods rather than daily periods, the system records the transaction (trade) date in the Accounting Date and the current open month end date in the Month End Date.

For example, a trade to buy shares for for a security on October 16th posts October 16 in the Accounting Date and October 31 in the Month End Date.

The system uses the dates differently when reporting information in different types of reports:

  • Activity reports (Accounting Journal) show the transaction as occurring on October 16

  • Balance reports (Trial Balance) reflect the transaction at October 31

In contrast, if your entity uses daily periods, the current open period is October 16, then a transaction to buy shares for a security on October 16 posts this date to both the Accounting Date and to the Month End Date. The Activity and Balance reports use the same date to return the information.

Accounting Journal

Month End NAV Reconciliation Report

When you use month end processing with Mutual Fund accounting, you can use the Accounting Journal Report. You can run the Accounting Journal report by setting the Report Type to Month End Date, and by specifying a value for the Month End Date field and the Month End Report Start Date field.

The month end General Ledger Accounting Journal details the month end activity. This report takes the transactions from the daily period (where the daily period is equal to the month end period) and includes any as-of transactions for the Month End Period Date queried. The report also includes month end activity that has been virtually allocated.

WRITERS NOTE: per the V5.5 release note, there was a separate Month End General Ledger Accounting Journal report panel. Not any more. Assume that the regular Accounting Journal panel was updated to incorporate this V5.5 behavior.

Potential as of Ledger Activity Report

When you use the month end processing workflow with Mutual Fund Accounting, you can use the Potential as of Ledger Activity report. The Potential as of Ledger Activity report can identify any potential as of activity after the month end close date. For more information about the report and how to set it up, see Monitor Potential As-Of Activity.

Trial Balance Report

When you use month end processing, you can use the Trial Balance report. You can run the Trial Balance report by setting the Report Type to Month End Date, and by specifying a value for the Month End Date field.

The month end Trial Balance Report details the ledger balances for the Month End Date queried. The report derives the Month End Ledger Balances by combining the ledger balances from the daily period and the ledger balances from the Monthly Ledger Balance table. Any month end ledger balances that are virtually allocated are also included in the report.

WRITERS NOTE: per the V5.5 release note, there was a separate Month End Trial Balance panel. Not now. Assume that the regular Trial Balance Report panel was updated and now incorporates this V5.5 behavior.
