About the Eagle Portal Administrator

The Eagle Portal Administrator is responsible for configuring and setting up portfoliosInbox reportsdynamically generated queries, and dashboard reports, as well as assigning user level and group level permissions. For all Eagle Portal users, the Eagle Portal Administrator defines the available portfolios, Inbox reports and report views, creates query reports and views, and manages dashboard parts and dashboard views. The Eagle Portal Administrator also manages all user security.

The Eagle Portal Administrator performs most of the Eagle Portal configuration and setup in the Eagle data warehouse via the Portal Administration function. For more information about configuring the Eagle Portal and the responsibilities of the Eagle Portal Administrator, refer to the Eagle Portal System Administration Guide.

Configure the Eagle Portal Login

The Eagle Portal Administrator provides you with the URL for the Eagle Portal server, your user name, and the password. The Eagle Portal Administrator also sets the default view that you see when you log in to the Eagle Portal's main window. Typically, the default view is Dashboards. The Eagle Portal Administrator also determines the Eagle Portal session timeout period for all users.

If you have privileges of the Eagle Portal Administrator, you can configure the login information.

Configure Portfolios

The Eagle Portal Administrator defines a list of portfolios that are available to you in the Portfolios window and may also define a default portfolio for use in query reports and dashboard reports. The Eagle Portal Administrator also determines what information is displayed for each portfolio that is available to you.

The list of available portfolios is based on the default search criteria that includes Entity ID, Entity Type, Legal Name, and Fund Market Value + Income. The default search criteria is derived from the Entity Selector rule configured by the Eagle Portal Administrator in the Eagle data warehouse's Portal Administration window.

If you have privileges of the Eagle Portal Administrator, you can configure the portfolio information.

Configure Inbox Reports

The Eagle Portal Administrator configures all Inbox reports and the Inbox options, including the schedules. The Eagle Portal Administrator also creates and manages Inbox report profiles that allow you to resubmit reports from the Inbox.

If you have privileges of the Eagle Portal Administrator, you can configure the Inbox report information.

Configure Internal Reports

The Eagle Portal Administrator configures internal reports that manage the information displayed to all Eagle Portal users. The Eagle Portal Administrator can configure and assign these reports to all users, specific user groups, or specific users. The recommended best practice is to configure multiple internal reports and assign them to various user groups.

The internal reports include:

  • Entity Selector. An ACCESS ENTITY SELECTOR report type that determines the fields used for searching portfolios. This report is required.

  • Position Header. An ACCESS POSITION HEADER report type that displays portfolio based summary information in the header area of all query reports. This report is optional.

  • Security Lookup. An ACCESS SECURITY SELECTOR report type that determines the information returned in the lookup function that is available in the Security Cross Reference query. This report is optional.

If you have privileges of the Eagle Portal Administrator, you can configure the internal report information.

Configure Query Reports

The Eagle Portal Administrator configures all query reports by using various report types, including data from positions, transactions, cash activity, performance, Eagle Data Mart models, MicroStrategy reports, and mutual fund net asset values. You see only the query reports that are assigned to you based on the following permission level hierarchy:

  • User. Queries available only to a specific Eagle Portal user.

  • Business Group. Queries available only to a specific group of users that belong to a specific Eagle data warehouse business group. User level settings override Business Group level settings.

  • Default. Queries available to all Eagle Portal users. Business Group and User level settings do not apply to this permission level.

The options that are available to you after running query reports depend on the report types selected by the Eagle Portal Administrator when creating the query. The Eagle Portal Administrator also configures default views and default settings for all query views.

If you have privileges of the Eagle Portal Administrator, you can configure the query report information.

There are performance limitations to the amount of data you can efficiently run in a query report since the Eagle Portal extracts query report data from the database, formats it, and transfers it over the network. If the report has a large number of data rows, many enhanced field types, or if the network is slow, you may consider not running these reports as queries. Instead, the Eagle Portal Administrator can configure large reports to be delivered to your Inbox.

Configure Eagle Data Mart Queries

The Eagle Data Mart is a data repository where you can organize and distribute information. With the Eagle Data Mart, you can select field attributes, source rules, date rules, concentration engines, code values, sources, and performance calculations from Eagle's data warehouse and deliver this data to an open platform for use by Eagle's reporting tools, as well as third party reporting tools.
If your organization has implemented the Eagle Data Mart, the Eagle Portal Administrator configures and manages queries that use the Eagle Data Mart models, including query reports, query views, dashboard parts, and dashboard views.
Examples of Eagle Data Mart queries include the Access Datamart query type that is used for viewing Eagle Data Mart's fund summary, group level, and detailed models and the Access SQL query type that allows you to distribute data stored in the Eagle Data Model (EDM), or any other database, via the Eagle Portal.

Configure MicroStrategy Queries

MicroStrategy is Eagle's strategic information delivery technology for internal business users. With MicroStrategy, you can run query reports and Advanced Reports based on the Eagle Data Mart models.

If your organization has implemented MicroStrategy reports, the Eagle Portal Administrator configures and manages the ACCESS MICROSTRATEGY query type that is used for viewing MicroStrategy reports and documents based on the Eagle Data Mart models.

If your organization has implemented MicroStrategy and you have appropriate permissions, you can access the MicroStrategy Web application from the Eagle Portal. Click the Microstrategy Web drop down menu in the upper right corner of the Eagle Portal's main window.

Configure Dashboard Reports

The tasks that you are able to perform with dashboard reports and dashboard parts depend on the permissions granted to you by the Eagle Portal Administrator. If you have appropriate permissions, you can customize dashboard reports and views by selecting different dashboard parts. You can also manage and publish dashboard parts.

If you have privileges of the Eagle Portal Administrator, you can configure the dashboard report information.

Configure Eagle Portal Settings

If you have been granted permissions by the Eagle Portal Administrator, you can customize the Eagle Portal settings in the Settings dialog box. These settings are stored in the database and are retained during upgrades of the Eagle Portal software. The options you see in the Settings dialog box depend on your permissions.

If you have privileges of the Eagle Portal Administrator, you can customize the Eagle Portal settings information.

Troubleshoot Issues in the Eagle Portal

The Eagle Portal Administrator can use the Impersonate User feature to help troubleshoot issues for all users logged in to the Eagle Portal without having to log out, or knowing the user's password. The Eagle Portal Administrator can impersonate users based on a user name (default) or other values.
If you have privileges of the Eagle Portal Administrator, you can manage the Impersonate User functionality and help troubleshoot issues for other Eagle Portal users.

To impersonate a user:

  1. From the Eagle Portal main window, on the right of the Eagle logo, click Off next to Impersonate User.
You see the Impersonate User dialog box.

  2. Click to select the name of the user you wish to impersonate and click Impersonate.
You see that Off changed to On - User Name for the user you selected.

  3. When you are done troubleshooting, click On - User Name.
You see that Impersonate User is reset to Off. You are no longer impersonating the user.
