The Issuer field is considered a special field within the Reference Data Center. To enter free-form text, or select a value other than in the drop-down box, use the Select Issuers dialog to populate the field.
To manage issuer fields in Reference Data Center:
- In the Edit Securities window, right click on the Overwrite field.
You see the Overwrite dialog. In the New Value field, to enter free-form text, or to select a value other than in the drop-down list, click the ellipses next to the drop-down.
You see the Select Issuers dialog.Enter part or all of the Issuer ID or Issuer Name in the space provided and then click Search.
If you want to use free-form text to overwrite the issuer value, then you must enter a value in the Issuer ID field.
The dialog re-displays with the results of your search.
- Select the issuer by checking on the corresponding check box.
- You can also select the Make this My Default Search by clicking the corresponding checkbox.
- Click Apply to close the window and then click Save.
You see the value displayed in the Issuer field.
- In step 2 – I think the instructions should clarify that if you want to use the free form to override the Issuer value (instead of the ellipses), that you need to populate the Issuer id, instead of issuer name. The reason questions originally came up surrounding this field is because when clients try to override an issuer, they will likely try to type in something like “General Electric” (instead of issuer id “001367960”) which would then populate an error stating that “no data exists”. Clients typically use the free form by default if they know exactly what they want to type in because its faster. However, most clients won’t know that they need to type in Issuer id which I think is really what we want to make clear in this article.
