In System Management Center you can add your own purge rules to the EM Shell for use instead of the default rules. These rules can be setup either across all instances of EM Shell or at a individual instance of EM Shell. You can also make changes to the EM Shell purge rules for each instance of EM Shell. When making a change to one of the rules, you need keep the same rule name and group name to override the core value.
Adding purge rules is a two-step process: you create the EM Shell Profile and then you add the purge rules to it.
To create an EM Shell profile:
In System Mangement Center, in the left navigation pane, select System Settings and then select Profiles.
You see the Service Profile tab displaying the global settings.- Select the EMShell profile and from the right-click menu, select New.
You see the New Profile screen.In the Service Profiles workspace, the setting provided by Eagle display as EmShell under the Service Type column, as EM Shell profile under the Description column and with the Core flag set to Yes. - In the Service Type field, select EMShell from the drop down list.
- Enter a Description in the space provided.
- Check the Is Default box.
- Click Save.
The newly created profile displays in Service Profiles.
To add purge rules for each instance of EMShell:
- In System Mangement Center, in the left navigation pane, select Environment and then select Services.
- Select Services.
You see the Servies workspace. - Select the EM Shell instance that you want to update and then right-click and select Show Details.
The Details tab displays. - Click the Configuration tab and then click the Service Properties in Database option.
You see the Service Properties in Database screen. Select which purge rule you want to change for the selected instance of EM Shell and from the right-click menu, select New.
You see the New Profile screen.When making a change to one of the rules, be sure to keep the same rule name and group name to override the core value.
- In the Service Type field, select EMShell from the drop down list.
- Enter a Description in the space provided.
- Click Save.

After you create a custom profile and add a rule with the same name and group as core, your core rule displays in bold
