You can use the Validation wizard in Reference Data Center to create validations that raise errors and warning messages. Validations ensure the quality of your composited data. Using the wizard you can define the validations, fields, and the data strategy. You can also view and edit and validations from the Validation wizard.

You can only assign validations to data strategies when you /wiki/spaces/ReferenceData2017/pages/37931472 during your data strategy setup.

Access the Validation Wizard

Use the validation wizard to create validations to confirm the legitimacy of the field values used in the composited record.

To display the validation wizard :

  1. In the Setup workspace, in the left navigation, click Validations.
    You see the Validations workspace with Validation page displayed.
  2. Click Create New and select a data type from drop-down list. Options include:
    –  Analytics
    –  Exchange Rate
    –  Issuer
    –  Issuer Analytics
    –  Issuer Ratings
    –  Legal Entity ESG
    –  Prepayment Time Series
    –  Price
    –  Ratings
    –  Relationships
    –  Roles
    –  Schedule
    –  Security
    –  Third Party Cash Flow
    –  Variable Rates

    You see the Create New Validation wizard with the Define tab highlighted.

Define the Validations

In the Define page you define the data to validate and enter a name and ID for the validation.

  1. In the ID text box, enter a unique identifier. If you leave this option blank, the system assigns a unique identifier.
  2. In the Name text box, enter a name for the validation.
  3. In the Description text box, optionally enter a description of the validation.
  4. Click the Data Type drop down and select the validation data type. 
    Options include:
    –  Security
    –  Analytics
    –  Ratings
    –  Variable Rates
  5. Click the Error drop down.
    You see the Select Errors dialog box.
  6. Click the Center drop down and select RDC.
  7. Click the Error Severity drop down and select the severity of the error you wish assigned.
    Options include:
    –  Critical
    –  Warning
  8. Click Search.
    You see the list of available error codes used by Reference Data Center for the severity level selected.
  9. Select the error code that you wish raised when the validation is true and click Ok.
  10. Click Define for Tests and use the Logic Builder to define the logic for the validation. For example, to raise an error when field X is empty, the logic is "Field X is null".
  11. Set Gold Copy Data if you wish to apply the validation to the composited gold copy field. Or, clear if validations do not apply.
  12. Set Vendor Data if you wish to apply the validation to the vendor sourced field. Or, clear if validations do not apply.
  13. Set Apply this validation when data is manually entered if you wish to apply the validation to manually entered values. Or, clear if validations do not apply.
  14. Click Next to access the Field page.

Define the Fields 

On the field page, you select the fields to be included in the validations. 

  1. From the list of fields that display in the Available fields column, select the fields to move to the Selected fields column by clicking Add or Remove .
  2. You can also Add All or Remove all by clicking on the corresponding buttons.
  3. Click Next to access the Data Strategy Settings page.

Define the Data Strategy

On the Data Strategy Settings page you define the Data Strategy Validation.

  1. In the Gold Copy drop-down box, select the data strategy. 
  2.  Click Save & Close.
    A pop-up box displays indicating that the Validation test was saved successfully.
  3. Click Ok.


View / Edit Validations

You can view and edit field validations from the Validation wizard.

To edit / view validations for composited fields:

  1. From the Setup workspace, click Validations in the left navigation.
    You see the Validations workspace with the list of available validations.
  2. Select the validation you wish to view / edit.
  3. Click Edit.
    You see the Validation wizard.
  4. using the steps above, review the information, make the appropriate changes, and click Save.
