You can base performance fees off the difference between a fund return and an assigned benchmark return. Eagle clients can calculate the performance calculation figures using an external performance accounting application. In order for Eagle's accounting solution to properly calculate the performance fees, you need to enter benchmark and performance returns into the Eagle system. You can use the Performance and Benchmark Data panels to maintain this data.

When you use the Performance and Benchmark Data panels, you enter the fund return and benchmark return separately. You can enter only one fund return into the system for a specific date. However, you can enter multiple benchmark returns for a specific date as long as the benchmark period differs. For example, you can enter benchmark returns for the S&P 500 for 12/31/2018 for a 1, 2, and 3 year period. The system allows you to enter the benchmark returns separately so that the process is global, enabling multiple funds to use the same benchmark for calculating performance fees.

Return Date221

Specifies the date for the corresponding return. The return date is based on the type of performance fee you use. Current period performance fees always need the return data from the previous accounting date in order to calculate the current accounting date performance fee. Prior period performance fees always use the prior accrual calculation method date. For example, if you set up a fund to accrue monthly, then the return date is the prior month end calendar date. Even if the prior month end calendar date occurs on a non-business date, this is the date that you use to store benchmark returns.
