In Data Quality Monitor, you can assign exceptions to individual users or business groups using the Assign Exception feature. You can assign an exception manually in the Data Quality Monitor heat map, or create an Assignment Rule that applies validation rules or data quality rules that automatically assign exceptions.
Note the following:

  • Manual assignments are automatically cleared when the Performance Calculation or Automation Center is submitted.
  • Manual assignments are overridden by assignment rules.

Assign Exceptions Manually

When an exception appears in the Data Quality Monitor heat map, you can assign it to a user or group.
To assign exceptions manually:

  1. From Performance Desk in Performance Center, open the Data Quality Monitor workspace, and select the records you want to assign using the checkboxes on the left side of the heat map.
  2. Click Assign Exception on the ribbon.You see the Assign Exception dialog box.
  3. To assign exceptions to a user or users, click the Users radio button and make selections from the drop-down list. 
  4. To assign exceptions to a business group or groups, click the Business Group radio button, and make selections from the drop-down list. If appropriate, click the Publish to underlying Groups as well checkbox. 
  5. Add Comments as needed and click Save. You see a confirmation message when the assignment is complete.
  6. Click OK.
  7. You can modify the heat map columns to view assignments and other relevant information by selecting the Grid tab on the ribbon and clicking the Columns icon. You see the Columns dialog box with a list of available columns. Select Assigned Users, Assigned Business Group, and Assigned By User as needed and click Add.


Create Assignment Rules

In Data Quality Monitor, you can also assign exceptions by applying Assignment Rules. Applying an Assignment Rule ensures that the assignments will be made automatically in the event of a submission of the Performance Calculation or Automation Center event.
To create an assignment rule:

  1. In the Validation Rules or Data Quality Rules workspace, click Assignment Rules on the ribbon.
  2. Click Create New on the ribbon to create a new rule.You see the Create New dialog box.
  3. Select the Rule Name, Comments, Rule Type, and Rules.
  4. Select Enabled to activate the Rule.
  5. Select the Assignment Type and Assign to Users/Business Groups, then click Save.
  6. Click Build Logic in Rules Conditions to create a rule based on Entity fields.You see the Logic Builder.
  7. Create the rule, click Save & Close, and then click Save.

Modify the Grid to View Assignments

To modify the grid columns:

  1. Select the Grid tab on the ribbon and click the Columns icon. You see the Columns dialog box with a list of available columns.
  2. To view assignments, select Assigned Users and Assigned Business Group and click Add.
  3. To view assignments and other relevant information, select Assigned Users, Assigned Business Group, and Assigned By User as needed and click Add.

Assign Exceptions Permissions

In System Management Center, you can control the permissions for functions associated with the Assign Exceptions functionality. To maintain permissions, click on the Exceptions tab in Performance Center Roles in System Management Center.

The options in the Data Quality Exception Rights section include:

  • Allow View. Enable/Disable the ability to view assignments.
  • Allow Assign. Enable/Disable the ability for a user to assign exceptions

The options in the Data Quality Assignment Rules section are:

  • Allow View. Enable/Disable the ability for a user to view assignment rule(s).
  • Allow Create New. Enable/Disable the ability for a user to create assignment rule(s).
  • Allow Edit. Enable/Disable the ability for a user to edit assignment rule(s).
  • Allow Delete. Enable/Disable the ability for a user to delete assignment rule(s).
