This section describes how to use Eagle’s Migration Wizard tool to migrate the Eagle Portal content from one environment to another.

Migration Wizard Overview

When you want to deploy new Eagle functionality in your organization, you need a way of following the software development life cycle. This involves orderly update of primarily metadata components from a pre-production environment like Development to downstream environments such as User Acceptance Testing and eventually Production. The Eagle Migration Wizard is a tool designed for this job.

Migration Wizard supports the migration of portal queries, query views, dashboard parts, and dashboard views in the Eagle Portal. Migration Best Practices

In this section

The following rules define best practices for migration.

  1. If a piece of metadata must be propagated to a downstream environment, and Migration Wizard can migrate it, then Migrate Wizard should migrate it.

  2. If Data Mart models are used in portal queries, query views, dashboard parts, or dashboard views, you must first migrate the Data Mart models into the downstream environment.

  3. Direct changes should not be made to migratable metadata in downstream environments.
