Define the Migration Process
In the Migration Wizard Export workspace, define the process for the migration, such as location to save the file and output format.
To define the migration process:
- In Migration Wizard, from the left navigation, click Manage Desk > Dashboard.
By default, you see the Dashboard workspace listing the migrated items processed by components, status and type.. - On the Home tab, in the Manage group, click Export.
You see the Export workspace. - In the Output file section, click Browse to select a directory location to store the exported item.
You see the Save As dialog box. - Type a name for the exported item.
- Click Save to save the changes. By default, the file is saved as .egl/.zgl based on the exported content.
- Enable Generate separate egl for each selected item, if you want to save each migrated item in a separate .egl file.
You can use this, if you are exporting multiple items on a single export, wherein you are going to import each item across various target environments.
Select Migration Rule
In the Migration Wizard Export workspace, select migration rule for the Export process.
To select the migration rule:
- In the Rules section, configure the migration rule for the migrated item. By default, the Default-Rules is selected.
- In Select Migration Rules drop-down, select a custom migration rule, if exist (refer Manage Rules for more details). Otherwise, click the Double arrow (Manage Migration Rules) icon to modify the Default-Rules.
You see the Rules - Default-Rules dialog box. - In this dialog box, a series of default rule is already defined for all the migration components. You can modify it, if required.
These defaults pertain to how Migration Wizard should handle the duplicate metadata component in the target environment – both how to identify a duplication and what to do when a duplication is identified. The best practice is to leave the default rules values as such.
Select Items for Migration
In the Migration Wizard Export workspace, you can select items for the Export process.
To select items for migration:
- From the Available Components section, select the component you want to export.
- When you select a component, all the items available for the component gets listed in the lower-right section. For example, Portfolio Data Center > Policies. When you click on Policies, all the available policies gets listed in the lower-right section of the grid.
- Double-click on each item you want to export. Otherwise, right-click and select Add to add the items to the Components section.
- Click the Red cross icon cross icon next to the item to remove it from the Components section (export list).
Start the Migration Process
In the Migration Wizard Export workspace, you can start the migration process.
To start the migration process:
- Click Save Items to save the migrated items in XML format to use it in the case of Silent Migration Export. Note: For Silent Migration export process, the exported file must be in XML format.
- Click Export to begin building the .EGL or .ZGL file. Note: When you export a metadata component from the Source environment, the Migration Wizards reads the metadata component and automatically detects and includes all the underlying metadata of the migrated component. On successful migration, a message stating ' Export Completed ' appears.
- In the bottom section, you can see the Schedule Name, Exported User, Actual Start Date Time of the export, Actual Stop Date Time of the export and also the Total Duration taken for the export.
- Click View Log to view the log file generated for the migration.
- Click Egl Viewer to view the contents of the exported .EGL file.
The List section displays the list of migrated component along with its underlying metadata component. Click on the component to view the list of items migrated for that component in the Component section.
Info When you migrate an item, few of the underlying components are not migrated. For example, Entity, Security Alias, Internal Codes.
