There are two effects that display the sum of certain values for the specified time period:

  • Sum per share. The sum per share effect sums all the per share distribution that is included in the field. It also ignores any distribution that has the 'include' option disabled. For example, if you create a new field, ALL distributions are included by default. Therefore if you use the sum per share effect, PACE displays the sum of ALL distributions for the entire period on the report.

  • Sum reinvest shares. Similarly, the sum reinvest shares option shows you the sum total of all the reinvest shares for all distributions during the period.

When you create a new field all the distribution types are included by default. You can ignore certain distributions by going to the advanced tab and deselecting anything you do not want. Therefore if you want PACE to show you the sum total of just the short term capital gains for the past year, you would:

  1. Create a new field with the Sum (per share) effect.

  2. Specify the performance period.

  3. Go to the Advanced tab.

  4. Deselect the Include option for every distribution type except ST capital gains.

When the report runs, this field only shows you the sum total of all the short term cap gain distributions. You can include/exclude any combination of elements. This also applies to the sum (reinvest shares) effect as well.
