The Multiperiod Performance Calculator (MPC) is a server-side process that identifies, calculates, and commits weekly, monthly, quarterly, yearly, since inception unit values, and to-date statistics at the total and rollup levels. Any new performance data or as of changes to performance data are identified and used to update subsequent unit values and to-date statistics. In addition, the MPC can build and update monthly, quarterly, or yearly performance records.

The MPC consists of an interface for defining MPC rules and MPC fields, a PACE engine that acts as a preprocessor, and a second PACE engine that calculates and commits unit values and to-date statistics. For information about configuring user security for the MPC function, including access to the MPC options in PACE, see "Appendix A: Configuring Configure PACE for Performance Calculations."

In some cases, dynamically calculating multi-period linked returns on the fly requires more overhead than calculating and committing linked returns based on predefined time periods. For example, if you need to know a month to date return every day, you generally have two options: dynamic multi-period returns and static multi-period returns.
