You could also create a stream in Message Center today that directly had the code in it to handle the header or trailer records. This stream could make use of include files or all the logic could be handled directly in Message Center expressions . If you are using IWS, then as part of your workflow you could call this stream.

While you can handle the header or trailer records today in IWS with a relatively small effort, it is not necessarily user-friendly. We plan on enhancing IWS to make header and trailer records more intuitive and friendly. To do this, we plan on creating a new header control object and a new trailer control object that could be simply placed within the workflow. Also, some basic common variables that are often seen in these records, such as Record Counts and Date will be available to immediately leverage. We plan on adding this in Q1.
