Before you create the Performance Calculation report, you must define a report rule. A report rule is a set of components that define the data source, segment groups, and calculations you want to perform. A description of these components follows.

Source RuleThe source rule specifies the data source to use to query data. Performance calculations require you to select a source for positions, cash activity, and security data.

Field RuleThe field rule defines the columns to display on the reports. You can include performance, positions, cash activity, security master, and entity fields. There are also numerous custom fields that you can add. After selecting the fields, you define the link between the custom fields used to calculate returns and the PERFORM database via the Commit icon. This is known as commit mapping.
Field rules make it easier for you to add fields to the report. For example, when you create a custom field, such as the Base Total Return, it is available for use in all other field rules of the same type. See "Adding Custom Fields to a Report Rule" for details. If you add a new field, additional configuration is required for commit mapping. See "Configuring New Fields for Commit Mapping" for details.

Grouping RuleThe grouping rule determines the segments (rollup nodes) on which to calculate returns. For example, industry sector and industry subsector. In any type of performance report, the grouping rule can also be defined as the performance model. See "Working with Performance Models (Dictionaries)" for details.
