In the Codes workspace, you can add, edit, and delete code values, code translations, code maps, and exchange code to map information.

Codes and Code Values are used extensively in Eagle's Data Management solution to assist with the presentation and translation of data. They allow the information in the database to be translated to more descriptive information for inclusion in reports.

Code Values are one way to store client specific information within Eagle. A translation requires setting up a Codes Values list for each source (the incoming source and the Eagle PACE source) and then mapping these Codes together. Codes are source independent; Codes Values are source dependent. You can set up several Code Value lists against one Code; but each Code Value list is associated with a difference source.

Add Code Values

In the Create New Code/Code Value wizard, you can add code values.

To add a code value to a code category:

  1. In the Setup workspace, in the left navigation, select Setup > Metadata > Codes.
    You see the Codes workspace with the list of available code categories.

  2. Click the Codes/Code Value tab and then click Create New on Home tab.
    You see the Create New Code/Code Value wizard.

Define the Code

  1. Enter a name for the code in the Code Name box.
    You can enter a maximum of 15 characters as Code Name.

  2. Enter a description about the code in the Code Description box.

  3. Click the Data Type Name list to select a data type for the code category.  This option is used to specify whether the code is used as an Entity Characteristic code. 
    You see the list of short description of the feed types. Set it as M for Entity Characteristic code, otherwise leave it as Default.

  4. Under the Code Value Short Description Length section, select the option to specify the code length.
    –  Use the maximum database will allow. Select this option to use the maximum database space for length.
    –  Limit the length of the code value short description. Select this option to restrict the code value length. Then enter a number to limit the length of short description in the Limit Length to box.

  5. In Track Historical data section, select Yes or No to indicate whether to track historical data or not.
    You can maintain an historical view of Code Values (the underpinning of classification functionality) so that when a group, such as the FTSE Global Classification Committee, announces changes to the structure of a classification, the system can handle reporting on the present values and the historical values of the codes in a FTSE Global Classification.

  6. Click Next.
    You see the Code Values tab.

Define the Code Values

In this tab, you can define values for the code.

  1. Click Add Code Value to add code values to the Code.
    You see the row is enabled to add values for the code.

  2. Click the Code Value Short Description box and enter a short description/short name for the code.

  3. Click the Code Value Long Description box and enter a short description/long name for the code.

  4. Click the Source list to select a source to which the code value belongs to. Otherwise use the Advanced Search  to select a source.

  5. Click the Code Value System Control box and enter a system control value.
    By default, the system control value is set as S.

  6. Repeat the above steps to add additional code values.

  7. Click Next.
    You see the Permission tab.

Set Permissions

In this tab, you can set permissions for maintaining the code/code values.

  1. Click the Business Groups list to select the user groups who can access the Code/Code Values.
    You see the available list of Business Groups. 

  2. Select one or more business groups to assign permission to use the Code/Code Values, as needed. 
    Only the selected business groups can add, edit and delete any code values associated with that Code. You see the selected groups are added to the grid.

  3. Click the check box next to the business group name(s) to give them maintenance permissions. Or, click Set All to Maintainable to give permission to all.

  4. Click Save & Close.
    The system creates the Code and Code values and lists it in the Codes workspace.

Edit Code Values

In the Codes workspace, you can edit code values.

To edit a code value:

  1. From the left navigation, select Setup > Metadata > Codes.
    You see the Codes workspace with the list of available code categories.

  2. Select the code you want to edit and then click Edit on Home tab.
    You see the Edit Code/Code Value wizard.

  3. Review the information, make the appropriate changes, and then click Save & Close.
    You see the refreshed list with the modified Code Value.

Delete Code Values

In the Codes workspace, you can delete a code. It is important to note that when you delete a code, all code values associated with the code is also deleted.

To delete a code value:

  1. From the left navigation, select Setup > Metadata > Codes.
    You see the Codes workspace with the list of available code categories.

  2. Select the code you want to delete and then click Delete on the Home tab.
    You see a dialog box asking you to confirm deletion.

  3. Click OK.
    The Code along with the associated Code Values are deleted from the system.
