Policies are the workflow templates of Portfolio Data Center. This is the most imperative template that governs the workflow for a given group of entities based on entity type and criteria. The policy dictates the steps involved with manual creation and maintenance of entities that are recognized by the respective policy, as well as engine based processing for automated events such as new entities loaded via ETL process.
In most cases, a handful of policies is enough for you to create and maintain entities. That is, a single policy that can govern the workflow for all Portfolios. However if necessary, it is possible for you to have multiple policies for the same entity type if there are distinct behaviors. For example, if you require that all portfolios based in the UK need 50 fields along with validations. But all others need 30 fields with no validations. You can create distinct workflows via 2 policies.
- Policy 1 – entity type = PORT and base currency = GBP
- Policy 2 – entity type = PORT and base currency != GBP
For example, Policy 1 has 5 field groups with 10 fields each and all validations are enabled. Meanwhile Policy 2 only has 3 of the field groups with 5 fields and all the validations are disabled.
